Can Robot Replace us to negotiate?



Nowadays AI is getting more and more important in our life. The evolution of AI has significantly help human being to live better and help business to understand more about their customer so they can provide better services. AI can help us in many aspects almost no boundaries include in Negotiation. Many research show that it will become a reality such as this research. But the next question will arise is "Can Robot or AI Replace us to negotiate"?
Before we can answer the question, we need to identify what key attributes makes a good negotiator. In my experience there are 5 key attributes makes a good negotiator that are
  • Having long term perspectives
  • Trusted
  • Cognitive Flexibility
  • Critical Thinking
  • Creative
To justify can AI negotiate better than us, we will review one by one of each attributes.
HAVING LONG TERM PERSPECTIVES
Most often we are going to negotiation that have long term impact both in business and relationship. Focusing only short term objectives will be risky. Currently AI has the ability the analyze million data to give prediction to the future business. They can predict the stock market value or the currency value using historical data, and other supporting data given by the user. So far the prediction are quite accurate. Even AI can predict almost everything using data, but it's still have difficulties to predict the future of human relationship. While in negotiation relationship play vital role in negotiation. Sometimes the relationship is more important than the business deal it self. But we're as human negotiator can measure the impact of our negotiation to the relationship
TRUSTED
Negotiation required mutual trust from each other to keep it moving, without any trust deal is very difficult to be struck. How AI and Human comparison in this aspect? AI always show everything based on data. Unless we program it to enabling lie, then the AI will always tell the truth. While we as human being has the potential ability to be a liar since we are child. IF we as human can keep our word and being honest to the other parties, we will have the same ability with the AI in this aspect
COGNITIVE FLEXIBILITY
COGNITIVE FLEXIBILITY means being able to adapt how you communicate based on who you're talking to. You don't just say the same thing to everyone -- that you think critically about who you're talking to, deeply listen, and tailor communication to that person. COGNITIVE FLEXIBILITY also means having many ways to reach the objectives. If we are able to improve our communication skills and being flexible, we will outclass the AI. Up to now, i never seen AI has the ability to tailor communication based on who they're talking to and they don't have more flexibility than what they have been programmed for.
CRITICAL THINKING
Good negotiator are curious. This curiousity required Critical Thinking ability for logic and reasoning. Always try to asking why and identify motives. In this part, AI or Robot is very highly depend on the human to direct them and to optimize them. The AI so far can only provide data and analysis without knowing the WHY
CREATIVITY
Creative means thinking out of the box and out from pattern. AI always required a pattern to follow. They will not apply other pattern that they aren't assigned for. While we as human almost have no boundaries while thinking. Some times we can have wild imagination we never realize and it can be happen. This is one of the aspect where AI can't meet or exceed.
Based on today facts and situation i may say that AI will help us to negotiate better but it self will not replace us to negotiate, yet. Fully autonomous negotiators are well in our future and potentially something that is portrayed more science fiction than in reality for a very long time
